QoE in Pull Based P2P-TV Systems: Overlay Topology Design Tradeoff

Abstract—This paper presents a systematic performance anal-ysis of pull P2P video streaming systems for live applications, providing guidelines for the design of the overlay topology and the chunk scheduling algorithm. The contribution of the paper is threefold: 1) we propose a realistic simulative model of the system that represents the effects of access bandwidth heterogeneity, latencies, peculiar characteristics of the video, while still guaranteeing good scalability properties; 2) we propose a new latency/bandwidth-aware overlay topology design strategy that improves application layer performance while reducing the underlying transport network stress; 3) we investigate the impact of chunk scheduling algorithms that explicitly exploit properties of encoded video. Results show that our proposal jointly improves the actual Quality of Experience of users and reduces the cost the transport network has to support. I

Effects of Force Enhancement and Force Depression on Postactivation Potentiation in the Human Adductor Pollicis

Force enhancement and force depression following active stretch and shortening are commonly observed muscle properties. However the mechanisms underlying these properties are not fully understood. Increased or decreased muscle potentiation (that is, the amount of phosphorylation of the myosin light chains) might contribute to force enhancement and force depression but has never been examined. In this study, we examined the effect of active stretch and shortening on potentiation of the in vivo human adductor pollicis muscle to determine whether the phosphorylation that causes muscle potentiation is a viable contributor to force enhancement and depression. Potentiation was assessed with twitch contractions and the contribution of potentiation to force enhancement/depression was assessed by comparing the force of isometric contractions prior to and following muscle potentiation. Subjects were given twitches before and after maximum voluntary isometric contractions at a thumb adduction angle of 30° and 0°, and these twitches were compared to twitches given before and after an active stretch from 0° to 30° (n=15) and an active shortening (n=12) from 30° to 0°. Stretch and shortening contractions were then followed 10s later by an isometric contraction at the finishing position to observe any effects of changed potentiation on maximal voluntary isometric contractions. Potentiation was increased significantly (17%) after active muscle stretching but remained unchanged following active muscle shortening. The increased potentiation following active muscle stretching did not affect isometric forces. We conclude from these results that active muscle stretching increases the amount of muscle potentiation, but does not contribute to the force enhancement observed following active muscle stretch. We speculate that the stretch-induced increase in muscle potentiation is a mechanism for saving energy during sub- maximal and maximal muscular contractions

Potensi Wakaf sebagai Islamic Social Finance dalam Pemulihan Ekonomi Indonesia Pasca Pandemi Covid-19

The pandemic that has occurred since 2020 has increase unemployment as well as micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) which have suffered losses and exit from the market. These cause unstability condition of the Indonesian economy. Alternative solution that can be explored is Islamic Social Finance, one of which is waqf. Unfortunately, the huge potential of waqf is not followed by the realization which is so lomited. Therefore, many ways are needed to realise the potential of waqf. One that can be applied is to increase the use of cash waqf which can be channeled into qardhul hasan loan capital for people in need and another way, namely Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach and library research techniques, where the data is obtained from various literatures in the form of journals, articles, survey reports, and the results of previous research. By using the AD-AS curve analysis, if waqf is used as an Islamic social finance instrument as an economic recovery and its management runs optimally, they will be able to increase aggregate demand and aggregate supply so it will have a positive effect on the country's economic growth

Eliminating racial/ethnic disparities in access and quality of mental care has emerged as a national priority as highlighted in the 2001 Surgeon General’s report, the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, and Healthy People 2000 and 2010. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) ranks this issue third among its top five priorities

Magnetic field resistant quantum interferences in bismuth nanowires based Josephson junctions

We investigate proximity induced superconductivity in micrometer-long bismuth nanowires con- nected to superconducting electrodes with a high critical field. At low temperature we measure a supercurrent that persists in magnetic fields as high as the critical field of the electrodes (above 11 T). The critical current is also strongly modulated by the magnetic field. In certain samples we find regular, rapid SQUID-like periodic oscillations occurring up to high fields. Other samples ex- hibit less periodic but full modulations of the critical current on Tesla field scales, with field-caused extinctions of the supercurrent. These findings indicate the existence of low dimensionally, phase coherent, interfering conducting regions through the samples, with a subtle interplay between orbital and spin contributions. We relate these surprising results to the electronic properties of the surface states of bismuth, strong Rashba spin-orbit coupling, large effective g factors, and their effect on the induced superconducting correlations.Comment: 5 page
